Why Meteorology at Lyndon?
The Meteorology Program at Lyndon State College is well known across the country for producing graduates who are well prepared for the diverse workforce in Meteorology. We provide a high-quality, unique curriculum that integrates theory and hands-on learning. Our small class sizes ensure personal attention for all students.
While at Lyndon, you will have an opportunity to:
-
develop forecasting skills by participating in a national forecast contest. Lyndon students and faculty compete against over 50 schools and consistently place among the top undergraduate schools in New England, with individual forecasters winning numerous awards each year.
-
be involved with severe storms research. Students and faculty will collect data while chasing tornadic thunderstorms in the Central Plains. The data will be presented at national conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.
-
develop on-air skills in our award winning TV Studies Department as part of News 7. Students create a resume tape in class and work with TV meteorologists that include The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore (LSC Alum, 1986).
-
gain "on the job" experience in the private sector through our Institute of Applied Meteorology. Students and faculty provide forecast products to companies in the ski industry and hedge fund investment firms.
-
gain hands-on experience studying real-time daily weather data starting in the first semester of your freshman year.
