Career Paths

The basic curriculum of the LSC BS MET Degree contains the course work in meteorology and in related science areas as suggested in AMS and NWS guidelines. An additional feature of our program is the required completion of a minimum of one Career Concentration. These sets of courses provide the student with additional work in preparation for employment in the major meteorological career areas (also suggested in the AMS and NWS guidelines). These career areas are TV weathercasting, graduate school, National Weather Service, military, and private forecasting companies. The courses are typically taken in the junior and senior years after the student has taken the initial meteorlogy course work and decided on their intended career path (because of the structure nature of the TV curriculum, that path is best started in the sophomore year to ensure completion in four years). We also have a concentration available in GIS, a descriptive and analytical tool helpful in manipulating and combining geophysical and social data in several career areas. Click on each career concentration to find out more about that area and the careers enjoyed by LSC graduates working in it.
